Holly's RockStar Baby Shower

Theme: Rockstar Baby

We had so much fun planning this shower for my sister Holly. She's about ready to pop! 80)

1. We got some old vinyl records from the DI and covered the label, front and back with fun paper and hung them from the ceiling and used them as part of the center pieces.

2. This what the dessert table looked like. The items in the blue margarita glasses were some of the mom-to-be's cravings.

3. For the Centerpieces and Favors we found star shaped candle holders at the dollar store and filled them with rocks. Then we put or favors( Rock Candy Stick we bought online) at each point of the star.

4. I made this little tin for the parents to be to write little sweet moments they have with their child so they can share them later. Also the guests wrote some tips and put them inside as well.

5. We hung tissue paper pom poms all over the room.

6. Gotta love the banner!

7. My SIL Kaylee made this fab cake. She did a great job! Thanks Kaylee!

I made some fun onsies some done with a freezer paper stencil and some I put fabric ties on them. I also did my standard but fab wipes case.

Some of the other guest did great handmade gifts as well so here's my shout out to them.
1 & 2. My Grandma Cobb did these neat little blocks and a cute blanket.
3. My Aunt Mindy crochet these darling little booties and a matching hat. I love love love them! So fab Min!
4. My sister's SIL and best friend Sara made a super cute diaper cake. I love the diapers, they have polka dots on them (bought at Target).

And last but most certainly not least. My mom is Whiz at quilts she designed and made this fab Guitar quilt because baby's room is kinda a rock and roll style. Mom you worked so hard on this quilt and it turn out AMAZING!

I cannot wait for the trees to look like this!!!! I'm sick of the brown moldy looking mucky muck!!!

Okay so I have been a little obsessed with making flowers lately. Flowers out of ribbon, out of zippers, out of burlap, out of fabric....basically whatever I can get my hands on. I even got some great vintage zippers from my grandma to work with. I'm going to be posting them soon and will be selling some of them as well. I'm so excited to see what you think so stay tuned. Also stay tuned to see the ideas and pictures of the Rockstar baby shower my mom and I will be throwing for my sister. Not to mention the gifts I have in mind to make for little baby boy. I know right.....

That's how long it's been since I blogged!!! I bet you thought something tragic happened to me lately huh? Nope sorry I've just been in a craft slump. I know right it doesn't seem possible but it happened. I've been crafting just not blogging about it, so to catch y'all up on what's been goin' down, here it is....

1- I learned how to knit and crochet...I've been a little obsessed lately with the knitting looms and have made my share of hats and baby leg warmers. (yes i know i cheated a tiny bit! SHHHH)

2- I have been spending a alot of time with photography and my digital designs.
3- I always forget to take a picture of it and therefore it feels like all is lost. 80( As most of my crafting also goes out to others as gifts.

Well those are the top 3 reasons I've been M.I.A. thank you for still keeping the faith in me though and If I've lost you please come back. 80)

Tree Inspiration

Here are some Christmas Trees ( some famous some not) to inspire you (or me rather) to put it up and make it beautiful! Have fun. The first tree if you haven't figured it out is in NY,NY @ the Rockefeller Center.

In the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. But I don't think this is the main tree seem to small to be a centerpiece tree for the largest hotel in the U.S.

I love the backwards thinking this induces! LOL 80)

Thanksgiving Place Cards

In my family we've always had a Thanksgiving tradition, the night before thanksgiving all the women (only one boy was allowed and that was my grampa because he is bangarang at making pies especially in bulk) get together to make yummy pies of every kind and make fun place cards for the table. (Then when we set the place cards out it was almost certain someone would come along and switch where they were sitting.) My mom always did a really good job at keeping it different each year. So to pass along the tradition of place cards here are a few ideas I drummed up from web surfing.
I love the Fabric leaves above a nice simple but beautiful touch.

Great little Pilgrims hat that you can fill with anything. Popcorn, M&M, Nuts, Cranberries or my mom's nut mix she always used and is a big hit in our family- Honey roasted peanuts, Small butter mints, and Candied corn.

This place card was made out of recycled paper. I love the design and the feathers and the kiddos can help with it!

These look scrumptious and serve at an appetizer too. What a fun little turkey to have on the table. Made out of 2 oreos, a mini reese peanut butter cup, a whopper for the head, candied corn for the feathers and nose, and don't forget the decorators frosting for the eyes and legs. 80)

For the sophisticated table a small vase of Reese's pieces topped of with a bundle of raffia to look like Indian corn too cute.

Last but not least why not tie it into your meal with this fun little turkey head on a skewer poked into a roll that looks like turkey feet. Very fun.

Super Cute Childrens Blocks

Aren't these the cutest children's blocks ever. You can find the tutorial from Tiff @ Making the World Cuter. These would make a great gift or decor. You can put anything you want on the blocks letters, animals, shapes, snowmen family, and one set was even the Nativity soooo adorable! Best part is they are very inexpensive to make and can be personalize anyway. Ohhh I just thought of using pictures of family members heads lol. I know sounds a little weird but just think of little Jack/Jane building his house of blocks with the ones that love him so much!!! Enjoy this great craft/gift!

So i know these pictures aren't my best but bare with me. This fist picture is that I'm requesting suggestions on hence the paper with the question mark. i have made this wall grouping on a wall in my living room. The rusted sign, bronze keys, and over sized pocket watch were a little over $50.00 at Roberts Craft, Oh but wait, I forgot to tell you that I got them at a killer deal of 65% off each item giving me a final check out of.....$17.50!!! AMAZING
Any who I am taking suggestions of what I should put in place of the lovely artwork that is the question mark. If you have any I would love to hear them. Thanks.

Above is a sign that my mother made for Mr.A and I last Christmas. If you can't really see the black lettering it says Be True to Who You Are and the Family Name You Bare. I hung above our front door to help remind us and our future little gifted kidletts. have fun.

Camera Strap Cover

So Mr. A and I deceided to try a phototour in Vegas. (to check out what we came up with, go to my photogblog Truly Gifted Design and Photography and Mr.A's The Wanna Be Photographer as well)

I've seen these sweet sylish strap covers on several craft site and Itsy stores. They looked comfy and would give me the little extra padding I need so I got to work. The strap covers on some websites can go for $$$25-60.00 smackaroos (gasp-but appreciate that most were hand made with love but with a little spare fabric straps I made these for $0!!! 80) You know I love a great deal and even better free. Yea for Fall!!!

Well it's almost fall. Which means decor of beautiful Autumn Oranges, Reds, and Browns. I love these colors. I love fall...the smells,colors,sweater weather, pumpkins, cornstalks... fantastic!!! In fact Mr.Gifted and I love it so much that our kitchen/dining room is decked in fall colors. Here are some great fall crafts I've found: This front door is very festive!

I love this candles in the Metal Pumpkin. Trey chic!!!Fun little decorations to hold anything like recipes, name cards for place settings at a fab fall party, Pictures, anything really! And if your looking to make it a little more adult use richer colors, real of fake leaves instead of foam, or simply take off the smiley face. Just Love It!!! (Also a great craft for the kids.
Now this is an extreme fall decor door. It is quite beautiful but a bit too much for my taste.

I’m Back….

So back with some great finds…

1st let me give a shout out to my cousin Jessica she made this awesome quilt for her husband and the coolest thing is she made it out of her hubby’s old MISSION TIES!!! So creative!!! good think Jess….(sorry I can’t get the pic to work so see it here it’s just past the cute camping pics.)

Next I have to show you my yard sale find for 1 smakaroo…. (sorry it’s blurry…) I know, it’s not very pretty… It came with scratches galore and scraggly sticks poking out. Until I cut the straggles off, painted it, and filled it…. It turned out pretty good I think and it looks great on top of my kitchen cabinet with my other sunflowers. 80) You may have to look pretty hard but you can find some great things for crafting and awesome pieces of furniture to refurbish.

What have you found at a garage sale and took it from drab to Fab????

Fun Vinyl Bags

I found this idea from a local T.V. show (Studio 5) that has a craft segment. These are fun interchangeable bags that are great as a gift and to put a gift in. (two bags in one, now that's what I call a win win). They are very cute and fairly inexpensive to make. I made one but am still fine tuning it. I will be honest though, you must make everything to the T and all the holes for the binding must match up...or sadly this gift isn't so fun to make. But take the chance... I found my Vinyl at walmart for a great price FYI. And what's so great is you can switch out the paper in the bag to fit your mood and style. Here is a full list of instructions.

Interchangeable Vinyl Bags by Heartland Paper
Supplies you will need:
*Zutter Bind-It-All Machine By Heartland paper (I used a cropadile but heed my advice about the holes needing to match.
*Clear Vinyl (available at fabric stores on the roll)-You will want a good thick vinyl that will
hold up to weight.
*Rotary cutter for cutting vinyl to size.
*2 feet of refrigerator tubing for handles
*10 yards of clear boondoggle
*Patterned Paper and decorations to put in bag
*Chipboard to give more support to bag
*4 yards coordinating ribbon for handles
*Scissors
*Cropadile or other strong hole punch.
Instructions:
The great thing about this bag is it is interchangeable! You can swap out your paper and ribbons at any time to give you an entirely new bag. The bag can also be made in any size and dimension that you desire (we recommend not going larger than 12X12). To make a bag in different dimensions than the ones shown, simply adjust the measurements as desired.
Dimensions given are for the large bag shown here. Keep in mind that all vinyl will be doubled so you can slip paper in between layers.
1. Cut vinyl using mat and rotary cutter , cut vinyl in the following pieces:
A. Front and Back– Cut 4 pieces to 8X10
B. Sides– Cut 4 pieces to 4X10
C. Bottom– Cut 2 pieces to 4X8
2. Match up 2 of each piece together so that they will form a pocket for the patterned paper. You should have the following pieces (each piece will have two layers of vinyl):
3. Punch your sewing holes along the edges of the vinyl using the Bind-It-All Machine. Make sure that your holes match up by placing matching edges in the machine at the same time. For example, match up the Front to Side A and place them both in the machine together, that way, when you sew them up, the holes will match perfectly. Be careful not to punch holes through the edge of the vinyl. If you can’t fit one last hole, leave a gap.

4. You will want to punch holes in the following combinations:
A. Front to Side A and Side B and long side of Bottom.
B. Back to Side A and Side B and long side of Bottom.
C. Side A to Short Side of Bottom
D. Side B to Short Side of Bottom
5. When you have all of your holes punched, you are ready to begin sewing.
To sew, cut a 1 yard length of boondoggle and begin at one corner.
Thread the boondoggle half way through the first holes (you will thread
the entire length of the boondoggle and then go back and thread the
other way with the second half of your strand. Loop the boondoggle
through the matching holes down the entire length of the piece. Return
to the top of the piece and take the other half of the strand and loop it
the opposite direction through each hole. Tie off the two ends at the
bottom of each piece. Before you sew on the last side of the bottom
piece, you will want to slip a piece of chipboard in to give added support.
You may also slip in patterned paper, but keep in mind that you will not be able to change out
whatever you put inside because it will be sew shut. Bottom chipboard should be cut to 3.25X7.25
6. Cut Patterned Paper and Chipboard in the following dimensions. You can also add any additional embellishments to the paper at this time.
A. Front and Back– Cut 2 Chipboards and 2 Patterned Papers to 7.25x9.5
B. Sides (patterned paper only)- Cut 2 to 3.25X9.5
7. Open up pocket formed by double sheets of vinyl and slip in patterned paper and chipboard. If you would like the inside of your bag to be patterned also, you can cut additional pieces and slip them in facing the inside of the bag.
8. Cut refrigerator tubing to the desired length for handles. Using a dowl or metal wire, thread two pieces of coordinating ribbon (cut to 1 yard each) through the center of the tubing, leaving two lengths of ribbon out each end.
9. Using a cropadile or other hole punch, punch 2 holes through vinyl, chipboard, patterned paper where you would like the handles to connect.
10. Using the ribbon that is hanging outside the tubing, thread one end through the hole and tie a double knot to secure the handle in place.
Then complete the look with a bow. Trim off excess ribbon. To change out the paper and ribbon, simply untie or cut off the ribbon for the handles and slip in new supplies.

This Party's A ZOO!!!

These are the pictures from the 2nd baby shower I did. The theme of course is ZOO Animals. It was a big success. The 1st picture is of a diaper cake I made on the fly after finding extra diapers from the centerpieces. The little animals that adorn the cake were hand crocheted by a friend of mine. She does an amazing job and they were a big hit!!! Just goes to show those little touches really do make a big difference.

This was the table set up.

The center pieces are scrapbook paper stapled in a cylinder with rolled up diapers in the middle for mommy to take home and also to hold it down.

These are the favors we did that went into the centerpieces with the little wooden animal on a stick. It was a very simple favor with multi color salt water taffy's on a skewer stick. I made the little thank you tags with my Cricut and stamped a footprint on them.

For drinks I made these sweet tags that went around the top of the water bottle and a single serve Lemonade to Go packet was slipped in the little pocket. The tag is embellished with the baby's monogram.

I am not a big games person so for this shower we had a table set up with fabric paint, foam brushes, stencils, and onsies for people to paint. It was a great project and for the little ones we had another tables set up for them to make little zoo animal puppets on a stick. There were so many cute onsies decorated that would be a whole other post!

My sister Shelly(mistress of fabric paint as we lovingly dubbed her) Made this and many others.

My Mother(master sewer/quilter/idea soundboard/AMAZING woman) made this beautiful quilt with a pattern of the giraffe she made herself and did some cute coordinating flannel blankets!!!

I'm so happy everyone loves the party and enjoyed themselves.

Baby Gifts Galore...

I recently threw a baby shower for my friend at work. She is having a girl and they are naming her Ireland (so pretty). I was so excited to make these gifts for her, I've had them in my head's craft/gifting bank for quite sometime. Thanks for having a girl Tryn! 80)

This was my first Diaper cake and it took some fine tuning but it turned out fantastic.

This if you couldn't tell is one of those travel wipes cases that you fit in you diaper bag. I just could not help embellishing it.

I made a Black, Red and, White TuTu with coordinating ribbons so it could match her room and be used as part of the decor when baby isn't having fun in it.

I also made a second TuTu out of Black, Pink, and lime green accented with ribbon as well. Just to have a little fun with. I love the way these tutu's turned out. I know baby will look so cute in her pictures and have so much fun in them. Plus maybe it will inspire baby to love dance as much as mommy does. I made some viynl lettering for baby's room as well.80)

I also have pictures from my sil kaylee's baby shower that was the night before this. I did the decorations for this shower with the help of my wonderful mom. They will be posted soon, so stay tuned. Thanks

Just wanted to give some helpful Etiquette on throwing a great Baby Shower.

Q. Who should throw the baby shower?
A. Anyone except the expectant couple — though Miss Manners might disagree. Formal etiquette says that someone who's not a relative must throw the shower to avoid having it look as though the family is asking for presents.Our advice? Ignore traditional rules. Any relative, close friend, or close co-worker should feel perfectly okay about planning a baby shower.

Q. How long should a Baby Shower last?

A.Plan on the baby shower lasting about 2 hours. It's long enough to feel like you've gotten to know people and that you've bonded with the expectant mother. But it is not too long so that guests are all "partied" out. And usually the expectant mother is pretty tired after 2 hours of fun! Some guests might want to stay a little longer to talk, so plan on ending the baby shower at 2 hours and then let everyone leave as they want to.

Q. Is it improper to have a baby shower for your second baby, especially if the sex is different?
A. It is never improper to have a baby shower. A shower is so much more than gifts. It is an opportunity to gather family and friends together to celebrate the beginning of a new life. The birth of a baby is a joyous occasion, and it is always acceptable to celebrate it. If other family members or friends are concerned about it being improper to have a baby shower for a second (or more) child, there are ways to take the focus off the gifts. If the second child is a different sex than the first, it would be fun to host a "It's a Girl" or "It's a Boy" party, where guests bring gender specific gifts. Or, if the mom-to-be truly does not need anything for the new baby, forego gifts altogether and just gather to celebrate. Another option is to host a casserole shower or a pampering mom shower.

Q.Should you have a baby shower for a mother who is adopting?

A. Definitely! Adoption is a miracle for the expectant parents and they need to be honored, loved, and supported just as much as others. A baby shower is the perfect way to celebrate an adoption. Take care to be sensitive about the baby shower though, no references to pregnancy, 9 months, or other related issues, unless the expectant mother doesn't mind or brings it up herself. Also, be sure to host the baby shower only after the adoption is complete. Sometimes adoptions don't work out and it would be even more disappointing to have already held the baby shower. The first few weeks should be time for the new parents to spend some quality time with their new baby. So hold the shower after 4 weeks or so.

Mommy-To-Be's "Liaison": Last, but not least, one of the nicest things anyone can do for the Mommy-To-Be is to be her personal Liaison during the baby shower. Due to the fact that theMommy-To-Be feels bloated, tired, exhausted and maybe even a little stressed. It is helpful for someone to be there for the following:
Place her in a comfy chair
Get the Mommy-To-Be's favorite food for her
Make sure she is always drinking lots of water
Get her something for her feet to be raised
Massage her shoulders a little on down times
Help her up and down from the chair
Monitor her mood and the amount of stimulation going on
See if you can get her anything a few times during the baby shower
By doing the courtesies above, you will be the Mommy-To-Be's favorite person and respected by all the people at the baby shower.

Tea Party anyone???

We had a surprise Tea party for my cute niece who is turning 8. I just wanted to share my table with all of you, as well as a couple of tips to setting an interesting table.
Levels are a great and fast, easy way to display your food or centerpiece. I just took different size Tupperware containers and draped it with some spare fabric (hiding the edges). I stuck some flower at the bottom to match the flowers in the pots. Remember be creative use what you have. Flowers, Candles, Pictures in interesting frames, Sculptures, or everyday items that coordinate with the theme would all make great centerpieces. But but don't let the word "center"piece fool you, It doesn't always have to be in the center of the table to look great. Just leave yourself time to play with different settings and remember the rule of 3. For example the flowers that are peeking out of the fabric at the bottom are all in bunches of 3's. But most of all HAVE FUN with it. 80)

And don't forget to use your pinky finger when pouring you drink. 80) an Etiquette must!!! 80)

From 60's Drab To Chic Fab!!!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

WOW!!!! Super Fabuloso!!!!
I made these drab old outdated nightstands and a dresser into a chic set of custom made furniture for my bedroom. Now I know it isn't necessarily a gift(I guess I could say it's my husband birthday gift) But if you find a great piece of furniture for someone you can update it and customize it just for them. Now don't say furniture as a gift that's little extreme don't ya think...and for everyday this may be true, but for someone you truly cherish it's very nice and personal. When my sisters and I turned 16 we all got a cedar chest from our mom I will always have that piece of her with me.

So this is how I did it.

I started by wiping down and dusting the insides and removing all the old hardware. Then I sanded everything (first time with an electric sander...go me!) especially the top because it has a icky fake wood laminate finish and primered it.

Then I painted it black as well as the edges around the drawers as those would be seen by the naked eye.

I bought some very pretty and also on sale scrapbook paper(that's right scrapbook paper) and modge podged it right on the drawer fronts. I glued the paper on and then put modge podge over the top of it. It will take 3-4 coats. Also make sure you get all the air bubbles out. You'll probably run into some air bubbles after you put on the top coat of MP. But not to worry, as it dries overnight they will go down.

After I let the paint dry I put 2 layers of a polyurethane top coat on to protect it form dings and scratches...Put in the hardware and TA-DA!!!! A Beautifully Chic Bedroom Set for Only $50.00 in supplies(mostly the knobs).

Clear Frame Gift

I made this gift for a friend. It was again very easy and I know anyone could do it. I just bought a Mat less frame at Wal-mart, Cutout some letters and stuck them in between the glass. (Try not to over think it like I almost did. You don't have to make letters backwards). I then took some simple scrapbook Embellishments and placed them on the front of the glass to give more texture and a 3-D look. Easy Cheesy yet a memorable handmade from the heart gift.

P.S. For the wrapping I simple wrapped in some coordinating tissue paper and tied it of with a wide sheer wired black ribbon and a hot pink Gerber Daisy on top. and I know laugh is spelled wrong LOL don't worry I fixed it before I gave it to her. 80)

Martha Stewart living had thid fun pipe cleaner button for those cuaght without thier green. You'll need bump pipe cleaners, card stock, a utility knife, safety pins, and white glue. Place pipe cleaner on a clean work surface. Bend the top bump into the shape of a leaf, twisting to secure. Fashion leaves out of the second and third bumps. Twist final bump around the center of the leaves once or twice to stabilize, then bend it into a stem. Trim off sharp, pointy end of pipe cleaner. Color-photocopy, or download and print, cards and medallions onto card stock. Cut out with a utility knife. Attach safety pin to back of shamrock, then pin shamrock to card. Glue medallion to shamrock.

I also read of a family that leaves their shoes out the night before and a magic leprechaun put treats in them for the next morning. Things such as green candies, a green shirt, and a couple of green knick knacks. What a great Gift.

I bought this table tray in a kit at Roberts Craft. The plexie glass top is removable so you can change the picture in it. I made a simple scrapbook page and placed it inside and put it on my living room coffee table. It's easy easy easy and doesn't take long at all. I made another one for a friend as a wedding gift. She loves it. I cut out the pictures from their announcement and used those as the main photo. It turned out quite nice. Just one more easy gift that you can put your personal touch on and best of all total cost was $12.00. That's a steal!
